Learn what some of us say about why we’re forming our union:

Judy Tran
Service Engineer
Bldg 81.3

I want fairness in terms of working conditions and health benefits when compared to other union members. I want to have a voice in negotiations. I also want a contract to reduce the impact to Seal Beach if the work moves elsewhere.

Ross Hirsch
Systems Engineer
Bldg. 80.5

I believe it's far better to have a single voice and have a say in our salary and benefits rather than assume you are in Boeing’s good graces. With a contract, we have a say when management wants to move work or take away overtime again or triple our medical premiums, or scrimp on the raise pool, or limit promotions. The list goes on and on unless it’s negotiated in a contract.

Luz Angel SRP Lead Bldg 80.5Boeing moved the support center from Seattle to Seal Beach, and like many of my peers, I followed the work down to SoCal. At first, I didn’t think it would be that big of a difference to be non-union at Boeing, but I was shocked to see how management treated employees and how the expectations differed. In Seal Beach, there is no consistency and employees are afraid of management. Because my peers in the Northwest are union, they aren’t stressed out like we are in Seal Beach and the flow down of communication from management is much better. Being union allows for better conversation between management and employees to create a better work environment.

We enjoy living in a world where we are free to make our own choices. In our current work environment, we have no choice, because we do not have a contract or a method for making our voices heard. Unless and until we have a contract, the only changes we can expect are for the worse. Creating a union at Seal Beach can be a major step toward having a more fair and equitable work environment.

I was once represented by the Southern California Professional Engineers Association (SCPEA) in Seal Beach but didn’t think it did anything for me. I joined others in voting it out in 2002. Since then, I have seen my salary and benefits changed many times without any chance to give input.

I realize now that we need to be part of a larger union by uniting with tens of thousands of our engineering colleagues across the country. We all contribute to the success of this company and it’s time for us to be treated as partners.

With a union contract in place, the relationship between my employer and me is clearly defined and consistently maintained, not just at the whim of management. Without a contract, I have no input on decisions affecting my job and my life.

Cliff Kuykendall

Bldg 80

I support forming a union to negotiate health care costs and compensation for differences in the cost of living here. I want a contract to guarantee these benefits in writing.

Ryan Hinds
SRP Leader
Bldg 80.5

When I started working in Seal Beach four and a half years ago, I thought that having a non-union work site would give me the opportunity to make customer support better. However, management has ignored our concerns time and time again, and I soon realized that unhappy people do not provide the world-class service that our airline customers depend on. I want Boeing to be my forever place to work, the best place to work. This is why I am leading the charge to CREATE a future for my coworkers and I at Boeing.
